Is life passing you by?

Is life passing you by?

Do you feel like you’re always in a rush? Where does your time go? When did you last make time for yourself to do something alone that you truly enjoy? If you answered, ‘Yes’, ‘I don’t know’ and ‘I can’t remember’, then keep reading.

It’s easy for us to get caught up in the busyness of our lives, tending to our responsibilities of work, family, household chores and trying to schedule in some time for fun when we’re not feeling tired. We find ourselves saying things like ‘ it’s Monday already?’ and ‘I can’t believe another year has flown by.’

If you feel like life is passing you by, perhaps it’s time to slow down and take a closer look at how you are spending your time, then commit to making a date with yourself to enjoy some quality alone time to reconnect to your spirit.

Make a date with yourself

Step 1: In the spirit of speed writing – allowing your pen to roll across the page without stopping and before your conscious mind stops you to think or criticize – write down ten things that you enjoy doing. GO!

Step 2: Write down the date that you last enjoyed each activity. Don’t be surprised if you can’t remember.

Step 3: Pick one item on your list and promise yourself you will do this within one week. Look at your calendar and schedule in time to make it happen. NO EXCUSES. Keep doing this each week until you’ve gone through your top-ten list.

Spending time alone is good for your soul. It allows you to slow down and think, or maybe not think at all, to recharge, and to appreciate your relationships with others. Having time alone, away from all distractions, improves your concentration and allows you to work through problems more creatively. When you commit to making time for yourself, you may no longer feel that life is passing you by, you will know how you are spending your time and you will know exactly when you last did something alone that you truly enjoyed.
